They continued to search and cobble items together. Joey was worried they’d hurt Stubbz’s feelings, until he dug up a striped scarf in various shades of grass green, beaming victoriously. A long neon sock completed the look, after a quick sniff to check it was clean.

Holes for her head and arms were snipped into the pillowcase. The tea-cosy fit onto her head. The scarf wound up one arm and around her neck. The long sock on her other arm disguised the blue sleeve of her jumper. Joey had to admit: this was far better than the Two-Brain Jonez costume.

‘Aha!’ Szlice emerged from the Stuff pile, clutching a faded pink sleeping bag. ‘Look – I found THE BEST THING! This will be perfect! It’s about as puny as you, Human Ha…’

Her voice petered off. Joey and the imps all looked around.

‘… rry?’ Szlice finished.

He’s gone without me! Joey thought, a frosty feeling starting to creep up from her feet. He’s really gone and done it!

Harry Hatchitt was nowhere to be seen.
